Nutrition For Athletes

Today’s athletes start younger and train harder. Maintaining a strong and healthy athletic performance is more than just a matter of training, practice, and “keeping in shape.” Your body needs support in the form of proper nutrition, hydration, and rest in order to keep performing and responding at peak levels.

When you consume a meal or a snack, the food you eat is digested in the body and nutrients are absorbed. The food becomes energy for performance, as well as the building blocks for muscle gains and system recovery.

To maximize athletic performance, it is critical that you consume enough high quality calories from different food sources, as high intensity training can burn hundreds or even thousands of calories in a single day.

The proper balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, water, vitamins and minerals is key when developing a nutritional program. The athlete’s age, size, activity level, and goals are also determining factors.
